10 Things I Learnt About Money & Wealth
There are many types of wealth, and only one of them is money. It’s an important one for sure, but it isn’t the be all and end all to living a happy life. It all starts with you - the best investment you will ever make, is in yourself.
1) Money does not make you happy It can absolutely help, but being ‘rich’ will not solve anything if you are not happy inside. No amount of money or money management skills in the world can help if you don’t already love yourself enough to know you deserve it.
2) Money is safety, opportunity, luxury, possibility, & empowerment. Money allows you to take risks, to provide for yourself, to feel safe and supported, to indulge, to go after what you want, to travel, to provide, to be generous, and to invest in yourself. Money is empowerment if you let it be. Life is hard, whether you have a lot of money or not. The good thing about having money is that you can live life on your own terms.
3) Most of us have some sort of limiting belief around money. Such as, money is icky. Rich people are selfish and bad. I‘m just not good with money, etc. Our beliefs stem from our environment and upbringing, and some people are absolutely a lot less fortunate than others. Our beliefs are ideas we maintain about money, our relationship with money, and our ability and worthiness to get money. Once you acknowledge that your limiting beliefs about money exist and you realize what they are, you can find ways to counter them.
4) Money is just energy. Money is an energy source. One of the ways the dictionary defines energy is “the physical or mental strength that allows you to do things.” Money, like petrol for your car, allows you the ability to do the things you want to do in life. Aligning our thoughts, beliefs AND actions will allow this energy to FLOW.
5) Wealth isn’t just about money. Wealth, to me, is the ability to fully experience life. Its a mindset. Yes, money can help with that but some of the happiest people in the world do not have alot of money. It’s a reminder that happiness is found in the everyday small things, and within.
6) Doing the work to switch from a scarcity to an abundance mindset is a total game changer. Money mindset work opens up doors you may have never thought possible. Educating yourself on money is always worthwhile. If you’re doing all you can, but still not making the financial breakthroughs you know are within your reach, it’s time to do something different. You need a money mindset reset.
7) Thinking money only comes from slogging your guts out can be misleading. Working smarter and not necessarily harder is a thing.
8) Getting the balance between saving and enjoying life is key. Its important to save for the future and not spend everything you earn if you can, but it’s also important to enjoy life. There is a balance to be found, and it’s unique to you.
9) Start investing from a young age. Compound interest. Look it up. Learn about it. It can do the work for you and make your money grow exponentially faster than it would earning simple interest.
10) The best investment you will ever make is in yourself. I’ve said it before and i’ll say it again, and forever more. Investing in yourself means actively working towards your personal growth and well-being. This could mean learning new things, honing your skills, or just making sure you're mentally and physically healthy. If you are truly happy with your life, you won‘t be envious that someone has more money than you. It's about setting goals that matter to you and really going for them. Gamechanger.
